Poultry feather disulphide bond breakdown to enable bio-based polymer production

چکیده

With oil supplies, needed for plastic production, decreasing dramatically, there is a clear driver alterative polymers from sustainable resources. Poultry feathers, containing ?90% keratin, are one source of natural polymer with huge potential biopolymer production. However, the presence crosslinks, known as disulphide bonds, hinders processability. This paper reviews techniques to enable breakage bonds through use reduction agents (sodium sulphite and sodium sulphate) hydrolysis. Samples were analysed using FTIR DSC quantify achievable bond breakage, effect on thermal properties changes in protein concentration. A review particle size was also conducted, along quantifying reformation post-processing. Finally, bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay used soluble content, key predicting if formation can occur. The results showed final between 48% 67% these techniques. It shown that content exhibited up 60% post treatment. These reductions increased thermoplastic nature apparent content. Despite achieving highest percentage, hydrolysis caused degradation useful proteins, rendering material unsuitable Results suggested treatment (4.3% wt. feathers) small (0–100 µm), sufficiently altered raw feathers feather

Keratin Production by Decomposing Feather Waste Using Some Local Bacillus spp. Isolated from Poultry Soil

Background; Feather waste is generated in large amounts as a by-product of commercial poultry processing. The main component of feather is keratin. The main purpose of this study was to identify Bacillus spp. (the keratinolytic bacteria) that are able to degrade the feather for producing keratin. Methods; Bacillus spp. Were isolated from the waste of poultries located in Miyaneh city. The bact...

Arsenic species in poultry feather meal.

Organoarsenical drugs are widely used in the production of broiler chickens in the United States. Feathers from these chickens are processed into a meal product that is used as an animal feed additive and as an organic fertilizer. Research conducted to date suggests that arsenical drugs, specifically roxarsone, used in poultry production result in the accumulation of arsenic in the keratinous m...

Large-Scale Prediction of Disulphide Bond Connectivity

The formation of disulphide bridges among cysteines is an important feature of protein structures. Here we develop new methods for the prediction of disulphide bond connectivity. We first build a large curated data set of proteins containing disulphide bridges and then use 2-Dimensional Recursive Neural Networks to predict bonding probabilities between cysteine pairs. These probabilities in tur...

Structural mechanism of disulphide bond - mediated redox

The oxidation of cysteine sulphydryl in proteins produces sulphenic acid that can form a reversible disulphide bond with another cysteine. The disulphide bond formation often triggers switches in protein structure and activity, especially when the distance between the two cysteine sulphur atoms is longer than the resulting disulphide bond distance. As an early example for the reversible disulph...

Intramolecular disulphide bond arrangements in nonhomologous proteins.

The presence and location of intramolecular disulphide bonds are a key determinant of the structure and function of proteins. Intramolecular disulphide bonds in proteins have previously been analyzed under the assumption that there is no clear relationship between disulphide arrangement and disulphide concentration. To investigate this, a set of sequence nonhomologous protein chains containing ...
